We’ve had a wonderful holiday season here. The best part was having our whole family together for Christmas. We spent some of our time together doing our family’s usual holiday rituals: cooking Mexican food for Christmas Eve; preparing turkey, trimmings and sides for Christmas dinner; giving gifts; and attending Midnight Mass (which is no longer at midnight, but still “counts”). We also did crafts, went sledding, watched episodes of old TV shows, and played goofy board games together. All in all, we had a great time.
After the kids went home, my husband and I enjoyed a short overnight trip to Geneva-on-the-Lake. We hiked through the snow at the state park, enjoyed vistas of Lake Erie, and had a delightful dinner at The Lakehouse Inn & Winery. We discovered a few more new wineries on the trip too. We especially enjoyed chatting with the owners at The Winery at Spring Hill and M Cellars. The Winery at Spring Hill has been in business since 2009, and M Cellars opened just this fall.
Winemakers like to talk about good years or bad years for grapes. I have no idea whether they’ll decide 2012 was a good year for grapes. For me, 2012 was definitely a good year filled with blessings. My family and I are happy and healthy. I had some amazing adventures too. I got caught in a zombie parade in Prague and danced with my husband at the Belvedere in Vienna. I explored science at the Harvard Forest through MBL’s Logan Science Journalism Program. And our whole family enjoyed a seaside vacation together at Sandbridge Beach in September.
Here’s hoping 2012 was a good year for you as well. What are some of your most memorable adventures from this year?
